He slept. He ate. He fussed. What do you expect? He is 24 hours old. However, he was in our particularly biased opinion terribly cute about it all and he did actually get to spend quality time with his older sisters. At least, Katie and Maddy were excited about it. PS People keep asking Denise if I'm glad to have a son so I can go do manly things with him (of course, my definition of manly includes wargames and baking, but I'm odd). Am I glad for the likely respite from Disney Princesses and Barbie dolls? You bet, but to say I really wanted a boy would miss how great having Katie and Maddy has been. So for anyone who wants to know, I'm looking forward to occasionally grunting and being manly with Charlie, but only between tea parties and Barbie fashion shows with Katie and Mads. It's a Dad's life. Cheers. Photos below: |

With the world economic system in chaos, candidates vying with slogans and mud, and the nations teetering ... teetering ... teetering, one would be born who would bring hope, cries of protest, and urine. One named Charlie. At 13:09 Singapore time, Charles Dylan Chai-Mulkerin came into the world complaining and when the midwife tried to clean him up, he showed what boys could do ... three times. Despite his puckish proclivity to pee, Charlie did get to spend a number of hours in the Neonatal Intensive Care as he apparently was still getting used to the transition to breathing air. However, as of this writing he has sorted himself out sufficiently to be moved to the regular nursery. Denise, Charlie's mom, is also doing well at this hour though she occasionally complains that her tummy hurts ... you know, right around the area of the c-section. She also has taken this time to slow down and relax as in the ten hours since the deliver, she has only written three company reports, gone on two roadshows, and initiated on twelve companies ... but she had to have something to keep her busy during the delivery. (If you don't like or appreciate this humor, stop reading and just coo over the following photos):

Terrifically terrible time or brilliantly beautiful birthday? It was a bit of both last weekend as we spent the weekend with Katie in the hospital for IV antibiotics. While the procedures were unpleasant (think tears and pain), Katie was in generally good mood as she had some wonderful visitors - Audrey, Jojo, Natalia, and Sophie - and a great time opening presents. |

Despite the weekend's trauma, local bon vivant, Kathrine Chai-Mulkerin, celebrated her 5th birthday a couple days late with a last minute bash on Tuesday. While the change of date to a weekday left some friends' parents in the office and most of her schoolmates unable to be invited on such short notice, Katie's many Pebble Bay pals turned out for an afternoon of socializing, finger food, and a magic show. While the affair's dress ran from t-shirt casual to little girl sundress styling, Miss Katie dazzled her guests in a tasteful pink and purple mermaid outfit with an authentic mermaid headpiece. Other standouts include Katie's dad, who kind of trimmed his beard for the occasion, and brothers, Ashley and Jessie, who amazed the other guests with well honed biceps highlighted with white muscle shirts. Next year, perhaps, Katie's parents will book a runway and aging super-model to add to the haute couture among the chicken wings. |
